In the Priests’ Chapel, in the Lower Guildhall, you can still see rare 600-year-old medieval wall paintings.

Only fragments of most of the original paintings remain but in March 2016 a stunning discovery was made by the conservators as they uncovered a near-perfect painting of John the Baptist as well as other parts of the reredos as they cleaned the wooden beams.

The wall painting is now protected by heavy curtains as it is a Category 4 artwork, the most sensitive and the same as the Bayeux Tapestry.
