Young Shakespeare's Stratford

Monday 23rd October 2017 free half term family fun

There once lived a couple called John and Mary Shakespeare in the town of Stratford-upon-Avon. On 23rd April 1564, Mary gave birth to a beautiful baby boy and they named him William…

Let your creativity and imagination fly and join Kate's Storytree at Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall and Stratford Library to create a tale exploring William Shakespeare's days as a boy in his home town.

SUITABLE FOR ALL PRIMARY SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN.

The morning session (10.30am to 12.15pm) will begin at Stratford Library and move to Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall along the very route young William would have trodden as he made his way to school in Church Street from his home in Henley Street.

The afternoon session (2.00pm to 3.30pm) with take place in Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall, where Shakespeare went to school and where he first saw theatre performed.

Both sessions are FREE

The family fun extends beyond Kate's Storytree with interactive exhibits, a film screening about the story of our fascinating building, a dressing up box Tudor-style and the fun and drama of a Tudor lesson with Master Thomas Jenkins, our Tudor School Master, all make for an unforgettable visit.

At the heart of the experience is the story of young William Shakespeare; where he went to school and what his schooldays would have been like.

Families will find themselves in the very schoolroom in which William Shakespeare himself was taught, with much of the teaching centring on the subject of Latin. And it's not just Shakespeare who has left his mark on the building, explorers will find etchings and carvings made by 'old boys' everywhere from the desks to the windows!

You will come away with a unique insight into Shakespeare's early life in the building where he learnt to read, write and first enjoy professional theatre.

Having opened to the public following a comprehensive restoration last year, Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall has received much acclaim from historians and visitors alike.
"Best place to visit in Stratford-upon-Avon! "incredibly memorable" "family-friendly" "absolute gem" "wonderfully authentic" "excellently presented" and "a fascinating place" are just some of the phrases used to describe Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall.

During half term Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall will be open daily from 11.00am-5.00pm (last admission 4:30pm).
